When might you use B? (1 mark)

During an examination under anaesthetic of an ear prior to mastoid surgery or tympanoplasty. Local anaesthetic, microsuction and freshening of the edges of a tympanic membrane perforation may be used with this. 

List 5 micro-ear instruments used in otology. (5 marks)

  1. Beales
  2. Baby beales
  3. Straight needle
  4. Curved needle, malleus head nipper, curette, plester knife, roller knife, frying pan. This list is not exhaustive. 

Name item C and state its use in otology. (2 marks)

This is a drill. It can be used for drilling the mastoid or canal.
